Hearts stitch journal, 12 January 2018

Another very dark day, with full overcast and mist. I should have taken a torch down the rutted lane and had to peer through the gloom to keep my footing. Suddenly in the ditch I saw something pale yellow – ‘no!’ I thought and bent for a closer view – it was a primrose. In mid-January. This is unheard of, but although it’s been our darkest winter for nearly two decades, it’s also been the mildest – we’ve only had one frost all winter and this morning I didn’t even need a coat. Today’s thread is vintage matte cotton twist from the Ebay stash – three strands for the outline and two strands for the infill. So that is the second row completed.
