It’s the weekend, so we had a bit of a lie-in today. Another dark and overcast morning, preternaturally still. The hedgerow held a new delight today – a buttercup! Again, this is amazingly early – even the snowdrops are not up yet, so to see a buttercup is astonishing, albeit that these are tight in bud as yet. We have two kinds here: creeping buttercup, the bane of gardeners, and this type, the marsh buttercup, which grows much taller and has nodding stems. Since I had free time this morning, I’ve done a more pictorial design in stem stitch, cross stitch and seed stitch. The thread is eight strands of variegated rayon machine embroidery thread.
