Up early to go swimming, so it was still night when I walked down the lane. The rain had returned overnight but had just stopped when I set out, and there was no sound other than huge, fat raindrops still falling from the trees and the stream that borders the field gurgling away in the dark. The tussocky grass in our two-track lane was wet and glittering in the torch beam. Today’s threads are the wonderful vintage green retors d’Alsace I got recently, along with six-strand DMC silver embroidery thread and black Madeira machine embroidery thread. The outline is in running stitch with double lacing to denote the stream, and the infill is half eyelet for grass and French knots for raindrops.
