A cool pearl-grey morning today, overcast but not dark. There was little colour in the garden or the lane today, but finally the snowdrops are open after yesterday’s sunshine, and are nodding their little heads in the border. Today’s threads are a beautiful soft grey vintage Cartier-Bresson six-strand thread called Brilliante d’Alger, vintage green DMC retors d’Alsace and a modern white lustre thread by Kreinik, which I used because I couldn’t find my good thread by DMC (clearly time for a sort-out). The white thread was stiff and horrible to sew with, so I limited the stitch to lazy daisy. Today’s stitches are Pekinese stitch for the outline – one of my favourite stitches, as it builds up into a gorgeous braid effect very quickly; stem stitch for the stem, fishbone stitch for the leaf, half eyelet for the calyx and lazy daisy for the petals.
