Hearts stitch journal, 11 February 2018

I had a white night due to a cough and was up at 5.00, back to bed at 7.00 and up again at 8.30. The sun was fully up by the time I got outside with the dog and the chasse were already gathering in their high-vis jackets for a ‘battu’. Some hapless fox will be dead by the end of the day, and my cats will be shut firmly indoors. We had our first properly blue sky of the year this morning, with the sun low in the sky but glittering like polished brass. The threads today are vintage DMC six-strand cotton for the outline; vintage Cartier-Bresson perlé for the sky and DMC metallic hand embroidery thread for the sun. The stitches are Hungarian braided chain stitch for the outline, whipped running stitch for the sky and a spider wheel for the sun, which I then oversewed to give it a few more rays.
