We woke to the sound of the rain, which luckily had stopped by the time I walked down the lane. It was a cool, grey morning, everything soaking wet, the sun hidden by dark banks of grey cloud but the sky clearing to the west, presaging a sunny day. The ivy on the upper barn is in fruit – soon the green berries will turn black and ripe, and then will be eaten by the birds.
Today’s threads are dark green coton à broder no 12; brown and green Peri-Lustre six-strand embroidery threads; and variegated grey Anchor six-strand embroidery thread. The stitches are threaded backstitch for the outline, stem stitch for the twig, French knots and double-wrapped French knots for the ivy berries and fishbone stitch for the leaves. This heart was quite dark and hard to photograph but hopefully the ‘sunlight’ shot shows the textures a bit better.
