A very dark grey start today, the sky heavy with what felt like rain or snow, but fortunately it has brightened somewhat into our typical raw March cold. Today I thought I’d stitch the Greater Spotted Woodpecker, who was on the parrotia tree this morning, about to destroy a fat ball (he gets one a day and the other birds share one between them). The threads today are grey coton à broder, black rayon floss, cream embroidery thread used in two strands, red coton à broder and brown cotton perlé. The stitches are double threaded pistil stitch for the outline (I meant to do coral stitch but lost concentration!) and backstitch, speckling and French knots for the bird, with a bit of outline stitch for a rudimentary branch.
