Truly foul weather this morning with torrential rain and high winds. Very, very dark, like in the darkest depths of winter, so that I almost needed a torch to walk down the lane – and I sincerely regretted wearing shoes rather than wellies. However, on the bright side, the mild weather last summer has apparently led to an abundance of small birds this year, hence the many wrens hopping around the place, including on our roses this morning. Today’s threads are grey coton à broder and 1920s rayon floss in black and two shades of brown. The stitches are backstitch, speckling and a French knot for the eye, while the outline is in free buttonhole stitch, stitched afterwards, as I thought it might be fun to frame the motif today .
