A grey misty start today, but still feeling springlike, with a lot of birdsong. Everywhere in the garden the euphorbia purpurea is starting to flower. I have a thing for green flowers and I fell in love with this wild plant when we came to France and dug up a plant from my neighbour’s field before the haymaking. Over the years it’s spread everywhere and I only pull it up where it’s inconvenient – it’s especially valuable for its evergreen leaves. Today’s threads are grey-dyed coton à broder no 1, burgundy DMC six-strand, used in three strands, lime green Anchor six-strand and lime yellow friendship thread. The stitches are Palestrina stitch for the heart, stem stitch for the stems and detached chain with infill for the leaves and flowers.
