Another bright, sunny, quite cold day with a pale blue sky and no scent from the roses, at least not until the day warms up. In the upper orchard, as the primroses breathe their last, the six-inch high blue spires of wild bugle are appearing. Every part of the plant is suffused with purple, making them look almost black. Today’s threads are pale blue cotton perlé no 5 and six-strand sewing cottons, sewn in two strands, in light green, dark green, dark purple, lavender and lilac. The stitches are Palestrina for the heart, stem stitch for the stems and detached chain for the leaves and flowers.
