A cold, sunny morning today, with an ice-blue sky. In my neighbour’s field the white campion is in flower, with its stripy bladder-like calyxes and purest white flowers. It is scented, but too cold to smell today. Today’s threads are pale blue cotton perlé no 5, variegated red/green Indian rayon, white Turkish sewing cotton, sewn with four strands, light green embroidery thread no 25 and white cotton perlé no 8. The stitches are coral stitch for the heart, stem stitch for the stem, fishbone for one leaf and stem stitch with infill for another, detached chain and granitos for the buds, satin stitch for the calyx, detached chain with infill for the petals, French knots for the eye of the left-hand flower and straight stitch for the stamens of the right-hand flower.
