Hearts stitch journal, 10 June 2018

Fog this morning – no surprise after so much rain. I didn’t dare risk the orchard, as the grass is so wet and the ground so steep, so I walked the dog up the lane instead. Magpies were squabbling in the wood, and I as I walked by, three flew out above my head, disappearing into the mist. Today’s threads are blue-white Indian rayon sewn with six strands, grey coton à broder no 16, black rayon floss, white rayon floss, black terylene sewing thread, navy Indian rayon and purple Indian rayon. The stitches are double whipped chain for the heart, back stitch, split stitch, straight stitch and buttonhole stitch for the bird, speckling for the infill and a French knot for the eye.
