Fog this morning (fortunately burned off now), and everything wet through from yesterday’s torrential, soft rain, which teemed down all afternoon. Out in the orchard, my favourite weigela, Marjorie, is flowering. Its lovely trumpet-shaped blooms start out a delicate pale yellow and gradually darken to deep pink, creating a beautiful two-tone effect. Today’s threads are grey acrylic knitting yarn and six-strand embroidery cottons in shades of yellow, pink and green, sewn with two strands each. The stitches are whipped, threaded running stitch for the heart, stem stitch for the stem, cretan stitch for the leaves, fly stitch with straight stitch for the calyxes, satin stitch for the petals and pistil stitch for the stamens.
