Hearts stitch journal, 26 May 2018

A warm, grey, muggy morning, everything drenched and dripping from yesterday’s thunderstorms. Down by the ponds, wild foxgloves are in bloom, their tubular blooms lined with an ultraviolet pathway for the bees. Today’s threads are pale grey cotton perlé, cream coton à broder no 4, pink Indian rayon sewn single strand, and six-strand embroidery cottons in shades of pink, lilac, purple and green sewn in two, three and four strands. The stitches are Portuguese knotted stem stitch for the heart, long-and short for the flower, split stitch outlined with stem stitch for the lip, French knots outlined with detached chain for the inside of the tube and detached chain for the calyx.
