Hearts stitch journal, 08 July 2018

A beautiful day – I’m off out on the bike in a minute. Today I thought I’d stitch our callicarpa bushes, which are growing just outside the door. I planted these for their lilac autumn berries, but the flowers too are very pretty with their delicate lilac blossoms and creamy yellow stamens. Today’s threads are cotons à broder in white, blue and lilac; purple rayon embroidery thread; and six-strand embroidery cottons in brown, dark green and pale yellow. The stitches are Palestrina stitch for the heart; split stitch for the twig; straight stitch for the stalks; cross stitches for the blooms; French knots for the buds; French knots for the stamens and, clockwise from top left: thorn stitch; bars with dot stitch; satin stitch with cross stitch; and cretan stitch for the leaves.
