Hearts stitch journal, 19 July 2018

Another lovely morning, with a spectacular sunrise of orange and pink. Down the lane, overseeing the shorn fields during our morning walk, sat a buzzard on a telegraph pole. They are plentiful birds here, soaring up high with their plaintive cry of pee-oo, pee-oo and – in this season – perching on the bales of wheat and barley, ready to pounce on their prey. They gaze at you with undisguised contempt. Today’s threads are cotons à broder in pink, orange, grey and blue; and six-strand embroidery threads in brown, buff, grey, yellow and black. The stitches are double threaded running stitch for the heart, back stitch, straight stitch, buttonhole stitch and stem stitch for the bird and a French knot with detached chain outline for the eye.
