Hearts stitch journal, 27 July 2018

A pink and grey dawn, followed by a large bank of fog, which burned off to give us another beautiful day. Rain is due later and it would be very welcome. In the cool orchard this morning, I disturbed a Jersey Tiger Moth. They are common here, though I never saw one before we came to France – in the UK, the Garden Tiger is more common. It’s a beautiful butterfly that enjoys our many buddleia bushes. Today’s threads are pink, grey and blue cotons à broder; six-strand embroidery cottons in black and three shades of orange; cream cotton floche and black Terylene sewing thread. The stitches are reverse knotted chain for the heart, satin stitch and long-and-short for the moth, French knots for the eyes and straight stitch for the feelers.
